I usually have a free reign when it comes to writing but the ‘Willen Hospice song’ – I’ll Be There was somewhat different. In 2010, my wife had been doing some pro bono work for Willen and was involved in producing a film with MegalithTV to be used for fundraising. Instead of using library music for the film she gave me a brief to write a song. I didn’t want it to be a song specifically about Willen Hospice but rather a love song that used the language of Willen to give it relevance and be capable of standing alone.
I was delighted when Gilly agreed to perform the song as she brings it to life with great personal meaning that touches a lot of people – whether they’ve have direct experience of a loved one in hospice care or not. In fact it was the positive reaction to Gilly’s live performances of the song that led us to believe it was worthwhile making ‘I’ll Be There’ available to purchase.
After much time and effort from a number of very talented local people who have freely given their time to put it together, we now have a CD that can be sold to generate proceeds for Willen.
